Be Sure to Taste Your Words Before You Spit Them Out
Your words can haunt you for a lifetime.
Something you said ten years ago can haunt you today. Perhaps, you said something in the heat of the moment you now regret. If you could take those words back — if you just would have considered your words before you said them…
Your words are powerful.
What a life lesson!
One of the first things we learn in school is how to sound our words. Then we learn "spelling." Funny how we call it "spelling words."
Words are how we communicate verbally. The impact of our words can build someone up or tear them down. How we speak to others reveals a lot about the nature of a relationship.
For example, I could tell a married couple I'm friends with was on the path of divorce based on the words they spoke to each other. They had been married for four years before the nice-nasty words turned into snarky, I'm-gonna-one-up-you sniping. They would always say, oh, that's just how we get along. They continued until people hated to see them coming. They became known as the Bickersons.
They were on the verge of divorce. Papers were about to be filed. Fortunately, they are now in couples therapy.
