Have you set yourself up for failure when you professionally pursue a passion for which you have not demonstrated skill and talent?

Many have heard the cliche, “Follow your passion, and you will never work another day in your life.” The quote is a misattribute to Confucius.

I say “misattribute” because the quote is actually,

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. — Confucius

When most creative entrepreneurs see this, we cringe. First, the word job seems to imply trading your skills, talents, and time for money.

However, a job can refer to your creative work in your business and career.

Secondly, creative entrepreneurs cringe because, with any amount of time in our business or careers, we have learned our passions aren’t always compatible with our skill sets.

In other words, sometimes,

You have no talent, skill, or ability to do what you love.

While one could say it’s unfair, others may encourage you to stop romanticizing and get on board with your natural talents, skills, and abilities.
