How I Changed My Money Story and Released Feelings of Guilt and Unworthiness

To change my story, I had to change my mind.

"You know you're the big money grip! You got this right?" He turned and looked at my brother and gave him two pop-pops on the shoulder.

"No, I don't got this," my brother said to his so-called buddy.

"I got my fiancé; I got my sis, I got Roslyn, I got Cyndy. I don't pay for grown men," my brother said.

And his no is always final.

My brother is a high-earner, and it is not because he works in some high-powered office. He's a foreman. He's an options trader. He invests well and in partnership with my other brother, owns commercial properties, and is starting a trucking company.

My mom is thrilled that all four of her children are practicing, as she often says, "Financial Freedom." She never wanted us to know what it was like to scrape to get by. She didn't learn 21st Century financial literacy until later in life, but she instilled "learning" it in us.

Her big advice was:

  • Always further your education
  • Learn more than one marketable skill
  • Read a lot (Oh, she didn't just tell me. She told all of us).
