“Don’t call it a comeback. I’ve been around for years…Don’t call it a regular jam. I’m gonna rock this land” — LL Cool J. Lyrics from Mama Said Knock You Out

Social Media is a ravenous beast. If you give it too much control, it will take over your life completely and eat through your days, weeks, months like a swarm of locusts.

Nonetheless, the power is in your hands.

For real, right there in your hands. That phone, yeah, you can put it away from time to time and check in your friends, family, life.

I left social media in 2013. I shut the door at the height of opportunities for creators. Was it a mistake? Did I wait too long to return?

My answer from a personal perspective is no and no.

Closing the Door

I’d spent many years as a grant writer and decided to leave the non-profit industry. I wasn’t burned out from writing. I was burned out from the process of procuring funding for community-based organizations.
