I think you may be right about the fear of taking up too much space. It's strange. It seems in one aspect of our culture, it's never enough--more, more, more. Then, the other part of our culture teaches (mostly taught to women and girls) don't take more than your share, play small, don't speak too loud. It's seems women are taught to consume but do it quietly and don't take up too much space.
