Joann, this is really an honest look at what it is like to get around in a car-centric culture without a car. Your observations about the stigma surrounding public transit in the U.S. are so true. New Orleans is the only city where I have lived or spent a great amount of time that doesn't give a lot of flack about public transit. The streetcar and buses are a part of its charm.
