According to the US National News Report,

All three men convicted in Ahmaud Arbery’s murder have been sentenced to life in prison

“The three men convicted of murdering Ahmaud Arbery were sentenced in Georgia on Friday. Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael, both received life in prison plus 20 years without the possibility of parole. Their neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan Jr., was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years. The three men were found guilty on multiple counts of murder for the killing of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man fatally shot while out for a jog on February 23, 2020.”

During the sentence, the Judge stated: “He left his home to go for a run and ended up running for his life,” the judge said.

I will be honest. I wasn’t sure if Ahmaud Arbery and his family would get justice in this case. After what happened to Trayvon Martin, I just didn’t have faith in the system.

More than anything, I wish Ahmaud Arbery was safe and with his family, but three savage-minded racists made sure that wasn’t possible, so we all have to settle for justice. Justice was served in the case and yet, hundreds are happening every year. Young black and brown men and women losing their lives while doing simple things like going for a run (Ahmaud Arbery), sleeping in bed (Breanna Taylor), going home (Trayvon Martin), playing videogames with your nephew (Atatiana Koquice Jefferson), or buying a pack of cigarettes (George Floyd).
