Mindfulness Teaches Us to Live in the Present Moment…
But how do we hold our memories in our hearts without those memories holding us back?
After reading Ripton Green’s, Where Are They Now, a contemplative musing on present-moment awareness, inspired, I’ve also spent a few hours contemplation this morning.
And when I am in contemplation, I write. I write in a stream of consciousness hoping to understand life a bit more when I’m done.

The principle at the core of mindfulness is letting go and letting be.
Whether in meditation or daily life, letting go and letting be encourages us to release fixation, worry, and rumination. Yet, this can seem impossible for those who treasure their memories. Memories, after all, are the stories we tell ourselves about who we are.
Hence, this is where the problem lies.
If we have made our memories our identities or even a part of our identities, it is impossible to let them go without believing we will lose who we are.
If we let them be, we believe we won’t have the power to change our lives for the better because of all the “bad” stuff in our past.
