My Grandparents had a homestead and the community around them were homesteaders too. My grandmother would freeze vegetable gumbo mixes of onion, bell pepper, corn, tomatoes, and okra. She would trade them with Mrs. Golden May (yes that was her name) for sweet potatoes.
