“Human life is fragile. We live in the space between one breath and the next.” — Pema Chödrön.

Life is fragile, though we often pretend it isn’t. We move through our days as if time here on the planet is infinite, as if the people around us will always be within reach, as if hearts and opportunities can be dropped and picked up again without damage.

Yet under the surface of that illusion lies a truth we accept as we grow wiser,

Everything we treasure is delicate.

Every heart is breakable. Every gift inside us is perishable if left unused.

So how do we learn to appreciate everything we do, have, and become in life?

At its highest state, appreciation is reverence for every moment, whether we perceive it as good or bad. When we appreciate life, we slow down to notice the details we so quickly overlook:

  • The love you can see in someone’s eyes looking back at you.
  • The way laughter can move us from sorrow to joy,
  • And the way someone takes your hand just to let…
