These are the conversations we all need to have, the words we need to hear. Often, the elder generation provided and cared for their children but didn't understand our emotional needs. Many assumed we knew while some "wearing our emotions" would take away from our strength. I know there were times when my mother didn't want to "baby" me because she wanted to prepare me for life. She says I love you, but no so much "I'm sorry." However, being able to give voice to our emotions whether they are grief, joy, elation, regret, or disappointment takes strength.
