To the Brave and Courageous Writer, I Honor You
Some brave and courageous writers may or may never receive an award honoring their focused work. Well, let me give you your flowers today.
When I use to think about writers, my mind was filled with images from movies and stories in books. Now, I think about the hours spent researching, developing, writing, rewriting, and still rewriting. I think about how we pour our hearts on the page with a willingness to face criticism, rejection, or rejoice.
For these reasons, I want to honor writers. I want to acknowledge your bravery. You spill your ideas, emotions, thoughts, beliefs, desires, visions — on a blank page. You fill it up over and over again.
You tell stories and your stories matter. Brave writers are important because you are willing to share your stories with the world even if that means being vulnerable or uncomfortable. Writers are brave people who propel the culture forward by bringing new, creative ideas that transform ways of seeing the world.
Yes, you are brave. I honor your bravery.
I want to honor writers because I understand it's not a hat you put on and take off. You are a writer even when your head hits the pillow at night. You are a writer even as you sleep.
