When Your Stories Evolve into a Message

A message evolves as we carry stories in our hearts and pen them for others to experience. What’s yours?

A Heart Filled with Stories” was designed by Author (Carmellita) in Canva.

I’ve told a few friends I share stories and content on Medium. From time to time, they ask me about it, and lately, I’ve shared with them, “It seems as if I’m telling one big story. It doesn’t matter if it is a poem, creative nonfiction, or a short story; it feels like one story.”

During a conversation with my bestie, Roslyn, and another friend of ours who is an Events Marketing Specialist, I repeated the same sentiment. And our friend said, “In one big story is a message,” he hunched his shoulder as if it was nothing to it. But that’s his way.

“In branding, we always search for that Message to thread everything together. And now, when everybody is trying to do everything, you must dig deep and get creative. You are a step ahead. You don’t have to hire someone to tell you what it is or should be.”

With this knowledge, I wondered, did James Baldwin have one story, one Message? Does Nikki Giovanni? Alice Walker? Tananarive Due? Steven Barnes?

I can’t answer that question for them. But for myself, I can say yes. A message has evolved from my writing.
