Most of us, who grew up with generations of hardworking people in our families and close circles, have been told we must make sacrifices to succeed.

And many have made those sacrifices, and success has seemed to elude them. What they have relied on to succeed is “sweat equity” in exchange for financial success.

Sweat Equity Isn’t Always an Investment in Your Success.

One of many hard life lessons in business is sweat equity isn’t always an investment in my success. And here is where the “hard-workers” will wrinkle their noses at this story. So, let me begin by saying, I believe in hard work. I grew up with hardworking people.

I know what it is to work hard. I had a summer job cleaning the school building and raking the football field when I was 15. When my mom found out, she was furious. The program said nothing about working in the hot sun, midday raking a football field with fresh cut grass every week, flaring up my allergies.

I completed the work program, but my mom raised hell about it.
